A House Ethics Committee complaint filed by journalist David Wheeler alleges that Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., had sexual relationships with three House employees under her supervision, two of them women, according to Headline USA’s Ken Silva. The filing, which Headline USA reported was submitted on Thursday, claims encounters occurred during official office hours, after hours, and on weekends; in Colorado and elsewhere; in Boebert’s district office; in a vehicle; and in hotel rooms paid for by her campaign committee.
What the complaint claims
The complaint asserts that Boebert “retained and compensated employees, including through year-end bonus payments from official funds, other than in amounts commensurate with the duties actually performed for the House.” It also alleges that when the husband of one of the female staffers learned of an affair, the couple divorced. Headline USA noted it is not publishing the staffers’ names because they are not public figures and the allegations are unconfirmed.
Denials and prior context
Rep. Boebert denied the allegations. “Well, I’m not a lesbian or bisexual, and I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship, nor have I ever been sexually involved with any staff,” she said, according to reporter Juliegrace Brufke on X.
One of the staffers also denied the allegations to the Colorado Times Recorder, the outlet reported. The Recorder further reported that Wheeler has a history of accusing Boebert of sexual wrongdoing: in 2022 he launched a website claiming Boebert had previously worked as a paid escort, using an image of a woman who was not her—an error Wheeler later acknowledged as “sloppy” while defending his underlying claim. According to the Recorder, Boebert threatened to sue but did not; instead, Wheeler filed a defamation lawsuit against her over her public threats, which was ultimately settled with undisclosed terms.
