Infiniti’s new QX55 compact SUV doubles as a fastback coupe

Do you still remember the first-generation Infiniti FX? Well, there’s nothing better than a new take on an old favorite. A very well-proportioned luxury SUV with a coupe-like shape way before the coupe-SUV mania existed.

And it’s finally getting an ideological successor in the form of the all-new QX55 that has been revealed on November 11 this year.

The all-new 2022 QX55, is Infiniti’s latest creation that is undoubtedly worth keeping an eye on.

Moreover, it’s built on the same platform, with the same engine and interior, as the eight-year-old QX50 SUV also produced by Nissan’s luxury brand. That’s the one, you may recall, that was formerly sold as the Nissan Skyline Crossover and then as the Infiniti EX.

Compared to the current QX50 compact SUV model, it is trendier in its styling, adopting the look of a sporty fastback coupe.

And when it comes to its dimensions, it’ll be positioned against the BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and the likes in the compact premium SUV segment.

More details of its specifications from the Herald Net report:

QX55 comes standard with all-wheel drive, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration (with wireless CarPlay), a split-screen infotainment system, ergonomically designed “zero gravity” heated front seats, sliding second-row seats, and a jumbo cargo area for a compact SUV.

There are three trim levels: Luxe, Essential, and Sensory.

With a $1,025 destination charge included, pricing for the Luxe trim starts at $47,525 and includes leatherette upholstery, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, power moonroof, a power liftgate, Wi-Fi, a six-speaker audio system, and four USB ports. Safety features include lane departure warning, front and rear collision mitigation, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The mid-level Essential ($52,625) has leather upholstery and adds a power-adjustable steering wheel with heat, 16-speaker Bose Performance Series premium audio, surround-view camera system, and driver-seat memory settings. The Essential trim also enables opting for a number of driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control and lane departure intervention.

The top-level Sensory model ($58,075) has premium leather upholstery, provides everything included on the other two trims, and adds a hands-free liftgate.

It comes with an innovative powerplant along with a bold design. Infiniti’s variable compression turbocharged (VC-Turbo) engine is standard on all three trims of the 2022 QX55.

According to Infiniti, its heralded engine is a blend of a high-performance four-cylinder and a diesel. This helps the SUV achieve peak performance while maintaining stellar fuel efficiency.

The QX55 delivers 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the lack of an available V6 engine adds a touch of disappointment. There’s always a chance that one is added later, perhaps on a Red Sport trim level. However, a more robust powerplant might not be necessary.

Further, it has 127 cubic feet of interior space, divided into 100 cubic feet for passengers and 27 for cargo. The passenger space is about what you’d find in a midsize sedan, though the cargo space is about double the sedan’s trunk.
