A recent Alpha Phi recruitment video has sparked excitement, with one fan commenting, “Wisconsin is coming in hot!” In the clip, the sorority members perform Jennifer López’s hit “Jenny from the Block” dressed in pajamas. The video, which has garnered over 1.5 million views on TikTok and has been widely shared on other platforms, shows two girls flawlessly executing cartwheels in front of their chapter house in Madison, Wisconsin. Following this, five members break into Jennifer López’s iconic dance routine, cheered on by the rest of the sorority.
The video caption reads, “We can’t wait to meet you, PC ’24!” inviting prospective members to join this year’s pledge class. Alpha Phi’s rendition of the choreography quickly went viral on both TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), as part of the recruitment process known as “rush.” During rush, prospective members visit each sorority, with each organization aiming to make a lasting impression.
A TikTok search for “PC’24” reveals hundreds of similar videos, with sororities nationwide dancing to “Jenny from the Block” in different outfits. Tennessee’s Kappa Delta posted a version in bright pink skirts, which racked up more than 2.8 million views. The University of Georgia’s Kappa Epsilon chapter took a different spin, dancing in pajamas and amassing a staggering 10.4 million views.
Other sororities like Alpha Omicron and Oklahoma’s Chi Omega opted for AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” performing cheer routines in sports jerseys and university colors, with their videos garnering millions of views as well.
As rush kicked off, all 26 sororities within the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) participated, uploading dance videos that captivated audiences. The NPC oversees these 26 national and international sororities across the U.S. and Canada, alongside other Greek organizations like the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC).
Girls interested in joining sororities go through a four-stage selection process, beginning with visits to each chapter and narrowing down their choices. Later rounds include Philanthropy Days, where recruits engage in charity work; Sisterhood Days, focused on learning about each sorority’s culture; Preference Night, where they choose between two final organizations; and Bid Day, when recruits are invited to officially join a sorority.
The viral videos have extended their reach internationally, particularly in Latin America, where viewers have drawn comparisons to iconic early 2000s movies like High School Musical and American Pie. Many expressed their admiration for the dance routines and wished they could experience sorority life at these universities.
This annual event, dubbed “rushtok,” captures attention each year from late August to early September, as sororities creatively recruit their next class of members.
