Qualifying in Monaco is one of the season’s most fraught, tense sessions, with the drivers all knowing how important grid slots are here. It was no surprise to see two red flags come out, with Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez the two to hit the walls. But along with those moments came some brilliant laps, notably from Charles Leclerc, who grabbed pole on his home track.

  • Charles Leclerc grabbed his second consecutive pole in Monaco and his third successive pole this year.
  • Leclerc has seven consecutive front-row starts, the longest run of his career.
  • This is Leclerc’s 14th career pole, tying him with Max Verstappen.
  • Ferrari’s 12th pole in Monaco also takes them past McLaren for a new record here.
  • Carlos Sainz was second, giving Ferrari their first front-row lock-out here since 2017 when Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen did likewise. They went on to finish one-two in the race.
  • Sergio Perez grabbed third, the second time he has out-qualified his teammate this year.
  • Perez had never previously qualified in the top six in Monaco.
  • Verstappen was fourth, and nobody has won a dry race here starting from outside the top three since Alain Prost in 1985.
  • Lando Norris starts fifth – the same position as last year when he found himself on the podium.
  • George Russell was sixth, out-qualifying Lewis Hamilton to lead their head-to-head 4-3.
  • Fernando Alonso was seventh, which ties his best start of the season.
  • This is the second straight year that Hamilton starts outside the top six in Monaco.
  • Vettel was ninth, extending his run of Q3 appearances in Monaco to 13.
  • Esteban Ocon was P10, for his best qualifying since Australia, four races ago.
  • Yuki Tsunoda out qualified Pierre Gasly for the third time this season, having only managed that feat twice across last year.
  • Valtteri Bottas was eliminated in Q2 for only the second time since 2017, following his Q2 exit in Australia this year.
  • Pierre Gasly had reached Q3 in all three of his previous appearances here.
  • Lance Stroll exits in Q1 for the fourth time in five Monaco starts.
